Terminal Expansion ProgressesApril 21, 2008 |
Hector
Airport continues to update their terminal, with the relocation of Enterprise
Car Rental. With the removal of its former
location, there is a larger open
space in the luggage claim area leading into the West expansion, which
includes a third luggage carousel. The former West entrance to the terminal was
remodeled to make room for the new office, and puts the company in line with the
other car rental counters.
The gift shop has also been expanded and refinished, tying its style and color scheme into that of the rest of the terminal. Removal of a hallway and small conference room behind the gift shop brought the square footage of the square footage of the space from 830 to more than 1200 which is a 50% increase in floor space. This has allowed for more space to bring in a larger selection of product; and the relocation of the counter has allowed for a better layout. There is a general agreement that the airport’s new direction in style has rekindled the modern feel the terminal has been known for since it was built in the mid-1980s.
These projects are part of
a larger terminal enhancement which began with the
West expansion, adding a fifth
gate,
and continues today with a North
expansion. The additional space to the
North will push out gates two and three, and allow for more space for the TSA
security checkpoint and departure lounge seating. With more space for queuing
lines at the checkpoint, flyers will have an even easier transition from the
check-in counters to the gates.
The newly expanded checkpoint should open early summer and the entire terminal remodel and expansion should be completed by years end.
