"It's been a very good first quarter for us," says Shawn Dobberstein, executive director of Hector International Airport in Fargo. He cited figures showing a total of 51,148 passenger boardings in the first three months of 1999 as compared to 48,734 boardings during the same period in 1998 - an increase of 2,414 boardings for an overall increase of 5%.

"Part of the airport's success is due to our 'Fly North Dakota' program, which we started last September," Dobberstein said. "Both Northwest Airlines and United Express reduced walk-up roundtrip business fares by as much as 50%. That allowed travelers to fly roundtrip from Fargo to Dallas/Ft. Worth for $500, and to other cities including Seattle, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Phoenix for just $650, with no advance purchase required."

"We've also been offering nine daily non-stop jet flights from Fargo to Minneapolis/St. Paul via Northwest, three non-stop jet flights to Chicago and two daily to Denver on United Express. This passenger friendly non-stop jet service has proven to be very popular with travelers across the region."

Dobberstein said other 'passenger friendly' features of the airport include enhanced flight schedules and competitive fares, convenient passenger drop-off and pickup, easy access to baggage, and affordable parking with lot fees payable by cash or credit card.

"We've been actively promoting what Hector International Airport has to offer," Dobberstein continued. "Our advertising campaigns in newspapers, radio and direct mail are designed to get our message out to potential air passengers in cities within a 100-mile radius of Fargo-Moorhead. It's obviously been working."

"The advertising emphasizes the fact that Hector Airport is a one-stop connection to a world of destinations. We're a direct link to major cities and exotic locations anywhere in the world."

"There are lots of good reasons for both business and leisure travelers to fly out of Hector International Airport," Dobberstein added. "As more and more traveling public becomes aware of that fact, we're seeing it reflected in a continuing upward swing in passenger boardings."
