Air Cargo Ramp Expansion Work Begins April 22, 2008

Hector Airport announces the beginning of the 2008 construction project expanding the cargo ramp on the north side of the airport. The first half of the project advertised for bid earlier this month, and Northern Improvement won with the lowest bid of just under $1.6 million. Other bids reached nearly $2.5 million.

This summer, Northern Improvement will add a 400' x 400' concrete ramp adjacent to the existing ramp occupied by DHL, a shipping company which offers air cargo service into Fargo. This is the first phase of a multi-year project. The initial air cargo ramp was constructed in 1997 and DHL constructed their air cargo sorting facility in 1998.

In addition to DHL, Hector Airport has many feeder cargo companies which operate daily air service for other air cargo companies.

The airport had hoped to accomplish more in the first year of this project; however, federal funding in the form of Airport Improvement Program (AIP) money was reduced by 25 percent nationwide for the fiscal year 2008. This money is normally used to fund up to 90 percent of federally approved projects.
