UPS Continues Seasonal Air Cargo Operation November 21, 2006

It has become a common occurrence during the holiday season to see the morning and evening glow soaked up by a UPS gold and brown cargo jet at Hector. This marks the seventh consecutive season UPS has provided holiday service to the Fargo-Moorhead area.

The holiday season is a particularly busy time of year for cargo, and UPS is known for boosting operations to deal with the extra packages. UPS forecasts handling 15 to 21 million packages throughout its system, everyday for the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Accompanying the increase in the number of packages handled is a seasonal increase in the number of employees. For Fargo-Moorhead operations, around 16 part-time employees have been added to the force.

The cargo jet scheduled for this service is a Boeing 757-200F. It is scheduled to arrive at Hector International Airport at approximately 7:00 a.m. each morning and depart for Des Moines and then its Louisville cargo hub at 8:45 p.m. The UPS seasonal aircraft at Hector is operated from the area in front of the old terminal in the south general aviation area.
