REAL ID extended deadline to May 3, 2023

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID full enforcement date from October 1, 2021 to May 3, 2023, due to circumstances resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective May 3, 2023, American travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic to board domestic flights. Learn more about REAL ID requirements or schedule your appointment to receive your REAL ID here.

Mask mandate extended until September 13

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is extending the face mask requirement for individuals across all transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on commuter bus and rail systems through September 13. Triennial Full Scale Airport Disaster Exercise

Hector International Airport conducted a full-scale airport disaster simulation on June 9, 2021. The exercise is conducted every three years to meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements and provide first responders an opportunity to exercise their response to an airline incident. The exercise scenario involved an aircraft carrying 73 passengers and 5 crew members that crashed upon landing.

TSA PreCheck™ Local Enrollment Event

Hector International Airport hosted a TSA PreCheck™ enrollment event on June 7-11, 2021. They enrolled 188 individuals. TSA PreCheck™ is an expedited screening program that enables identified low-risk air travelers to enjoy a smart and more efficient screening experience. For TSA PreCheck™ travelers, there is no need to remove shoes, 3-1-1 liquids, laptops, light outerwear or belts.

Fargo Air Museum Spotlight

The Fargo Air Museum was founded with the nonprofit mission of promoting aviation through education, preservation, and restoration.

Ryan Thayer has been in the Executive Director role since May of 2020 and is responsible for guiding the Fargo Air Museum into the future by transforming it into a must-see tourist destination. Thayer has over 15 years of business ownership, sales and marketing and managerial experience. His experience comes from diverse roles at various financial, insurance and real estate firms as well as building eight different businesses from the ground up. The Arts Partnership Celebrates Summer Break with Live Musical Performances

The ArtWORKS program at Hector International Airport hosted musical performances by local artists throughout the months of June and July. Performances ran weekly over the lunch hour and will feature Minnesota State University Moorhead students, Fargo-Moorhead residents, Performers included:

  • Jake Ingamar, singer-songwriter
  • jazz duo Conor Lee (guitar) and Max Johnk (upright bass)
  • Steven Hammer, ambient electronic music
  • Anna Alynn, singer-songwriter on piano
  • Dan Christianson, singer-songwriter with guitar

Acts were comprised of primarily solo and duo performances, positioned by the café on the 2nd floor. The ArtWORKS program brings dynamic exhibits of art into the public realm. Hector International Airport is a strong supporter of local art.

The Arts Partnership installs new artwork

The Arts Partnership installed a new series of art at Hector International Airport on Thursday, June 10, 2021.The ArtWORKS program is dedicated to placing art in the public realm, is in its third year at Hector International Airport. The exhibition, titled “Abstractions,” features paintings by artist Ashley Kunz. The vibrant abstracts allow the viewer’s mind to wander and spark the imagination.

Hector International Airport is seeing increased traveler numbers. Passenger numbers are exceeding our expectations and continue to increase.

April 2021
Hector International Airport’s airline passenger traffic in April showed an increase when compared to the same month in 2020. The effects of COVID almost shut down air travel in April 2020. In April 2021, the passenger enplanements were 27,119. This is an increase of 1,644% when compared to the April 2020 passenger enplanements of 1,555.

The total passenger count for the month was 57,346, which is up 1,307% over the same period last year. There were 525 air carrier departures with an average of 83 seats per flight in April and an average of 1,912 total daily passengers.

May 2021
Hector International Airport’s airline passenger traffic in May showed an increase when compared to the same month in 2020. In May 2021, the passenger enplanements were 29,503. This is an increase of 469% when compared to the May 2020 passenger enplanements of 5,190.

The total passenger count for the month was 58,505, which is up 433% over the same period last year. There were 515 air carrier departures with an average of 83 seats per flight in May and an average of 1,887 total daily passengers.

June 2021
Hector International Airport’s airline passenger traffic in June showed an increase when compared to the same month in 2020. In June 2021, the passenger enplanements were 36,715. This is an increase of 307% when compared to the June 2020 passenger enplanements of 9,005. June 2021 was the 3rd busiest June on record.

The total passenger count for the month was 75,428, which is up 301% over the same period last year. There were 565 air carrier departures with an average of 84 seats per flight in June and an average of 2,514 total daily passengers.
