TAP Artworks Installs “Trains, Plains and No Automobiles”

The Municipal Airport Authority has been a strong supporter of The Arts Partnership’s ArtWORKS program. The members believe art expresses who we are as a community and shares values of creativity and thoughtfulness. The ArtWORKS program, dedicated to placing art in the public realm, is in its second year at Hector International Airport.

The exhibition currently installed features work by photographer and writer W. Scott Olsen, a professor of English at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. The exhibit, titled “Trains, Plains and No Automobiles”, reflects Olsen’s perspective on landscape and culture, following a 2019 trip on Amtrak around the perimeter of the continental United States. As a veteran of road-trip and airplane travel, Olsen had never spent time on long-distance passenger trains prior to his tour of the continental U.S. in the summer of 2019. Olsen discovered a new perspective about place and community when landscape and towns race by the window.

All artwork for exhibits is curated and displayed by The Arts Partnership, including reprints of each piece which are displayed in the departure area. Original artwork is available for sale by participating artists.
