Construction Begins for the 2016 Season

Posted April 28, 2016

Last year was a busy construction season with the addition of the new taxiway ‘J’ (Juliet) but 2016 will be even busier at Hector International Airport with the continuation of taxiway ‘A’ (Alpha) reconstruction.

Starting Monday, May 2nd, work will commence on the removal and replacement of a portion of taxiway ‘A’. In 2013, about 25% of the taxiway was reconstructed (south end) and this phased portion will finish approximately 50% of the remaining total. A portion of this project will be put out for bid in early May to include the terminal taxiway and taxiway ‘A3’ which was not included in the earlier project bid. The remaining portion of taxiway ‘A’ reconstruction (most northern portion) will be completed either in 2017 or 2018 when funding becomes available.

The project will increase taxiing times to the air carriers serving Hector. With the portion of taxiway ‘A’ closed, air carrier aircraft will have to taxi from the terminal ramp via taxiway J and then cross to the opposite side of airport or back taxi on the runway for departure. The airlines serving the airport have made adjustments to their schedules to include the extra time for the extended taxiing route.

Northern Improvement of Fargo, ND was awarded the bid in the amount of $7.8M. This does not include the additional work that will be bid in May. The taxiway project should be completed by early November. This project will be funded jointly by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Municipal Airport Authority.
