New Escalators Become Operational
The escalator replacement project that began in January 2007 has just been partially completed. This portion of the terminal expansion/rehabilitation had the greatest affect on the traveling public.
The middle section of the terminal was completely closed off for 6 months and new wider escalators and the addition of more floor space on the 2nd level was completed. This phase of the project will provide more room for the security checkpoint lines and also for meeters and greeters to meet the passengers either enplaning or deplaning.
The remaining portion of this phase will replace the existing elevator with an updated cab and a more accessible entrance. The updated elevator will take approximately 4 weeks to complete and an elevator on the east end of the passenger terminal will be used until the new one is completed. The west expansion is still on schedule with a completion expected in August.
This expansion will add a third baggage claim and a new gate to the terminal. Once this is completed the terminal will be expanded to the north providing more departure lounge room and a much larger area for the security checkpoint. The entire project should be completed by late 2008.
Work began today a portion of Cass County Drain 10 that spans through airport property. The ditch bank along the drain have held considerably high water for long periods of time which had caused portions of the ditch bank to slide into the bottom of the channel.
