New Taxiway Project Begins
The airport construction season starts off even later than the late start last year. A new taxiway will be constructed on the west side of the air operation area for this year’s 2014 airport construction project.
The terminal ramp was expanded last year to create additional parking for overnight aircraft. This project was completed last November. The additional aircraft parking was needed due to the continuing increase in passenger traffic the airport is experiencing.
This year, the new taxiway will provide an alternate route for aircraft to enter and exit the passenger terminal ramp. This project is part of a larger taxiway rehabilitation project that may continue next season. The parallel taxiway to the largest runway was been partially reconstructed two years ago. If funding is secured the rehabilitation project will continue. Taxiway A is the only route for passenger aircraft to access the terminal building. During the rehabilitation project, aircraft will be able to access the passenger terminal ramp via the newly constructed taxiway.
The new taxiway will be 1,895’ long and 75’ wide and will connect the terminal ramp to runway 09. The taxiway will consist of 16,510 square yards of concrete.
Northern Improvement of Fargo, ND was awarded the bid in the amount of $4,734,205. The taxiway project may be completed late fall or next spring. This project is being funded jointly by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Municipal Airport Authority.
In addition to the taxiway project, many new privately-funded hangars are being constructed including an additional hangar at Fargo Jet Center and the Fargo Air Museum.
