Delta Air Lines Helps with Fargo Evacuation
Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal – by Chris Newmarker Staff Writer
Delta Air Lines Inc. has been providing free charter flights to evacuate elderly and assisted living residents out of Fargo, N.D., as the community prepares for potentially serious flooding.
Working with North Dakota authorities, the airline called in a Boeing 757 and a DC-9 to provide one flight Thursday and two flights Friday.
Delta spokeswoman Heather Faulkner said the airline was still determining with authorities whether more flights are needed.
Northwest Airlines, which recently merged with Delta, has served Fargo for 60 years.
“Fargo’s been a really good market and an important destination on our network”, Delta CEO Richard Anderson told his employees in a recorded message Friday.
He said it “kind of gives perspective to the economy when you look at the challenges they’re facing there.”
